Matriculation schools' plea for reopening on June 6

The Federation of Matriculation Schools Associations has written to the State government requesting it to permit member schools to reopen on June 6.

The request comes in the wake of the State government's directive to all government, aided and private schools to reopen on June 15.

The directive followed the government's decision to defer implementation of Samacheer Kalvi (Equitable Standard School Education). The State government directed the Text Book Corporation to print textbooks as per the old syllabus.

However, a section of matriculation schools has been appealing to the government and the Directorate of Matriculation schools asking if they could reopen before June 15, since they have the necessary books.

UNIFORMITY

On Wednesday, sources in the directorate said that the government expected all the schools to reopen on June 15, to ensure uniformity in the date of reopening.

TEXTBOOKS

Sources in the Textbook Corporation said nearly 150 printers were currently engaged to print the textbooks. While the textbooks as per Samacheer Kalvi syllabus were of A4 size for all subjects and journal size for language textbooks, those being printed now would come in three sizes.

The Samacheer Kalvi books were all printed using multicolour. But now, except the maths and science textbooks, all the books would require single-colour printing, sources added.

School Education Minister C.Ve.Shanmugam chaired a review meeting with senior officials on Wednesday. Enquiries revealed that it was a meeting to review various schemes and projects.
